Confusion in Water Resources Ministry as Non-Engineers Appointed to Lead River Basin Authorities Tension and confusion have erupted within Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Water Resources following the recent appointment of individuals without engineering or civil engineering backgrounds to head several River Basin Development Authorities (RBDAs), sparking concerns among professionals and stakeholders in the sector. One of the most controversial appointments is that of George Olumoroto, whose professional background remains unclear as he is not registered engineer with COREN, prompting criticism from within the ministry and the broader engineering community. Sources within the ministry expressed frustration, citing that RBDAs are highly technical agencies responsible for managing complex water infrastructure projects including dams, irrigation systems, and flood control mechanisms. Traditionally, these roles have been led by seasoned engineers, particularly civil engineers, who possess the technical expertise to oversee such infrastructure. “It’s like asking someone without medical training to run a hospital,” a senior official said under condition of anonymity. Professional bodies, including the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), have voiced their concern over the implications of these appointments. In a statement issued earlier this week, the NSE emphasized that competence and experience in engineering should remain a non-negotiable prerequisite for leadership roles in such technical agencies. “Water resource management is not just administrative it is fundamentally technical,” the statement read, warning that the quality and safety of critical infrastructure may be compromised under non-expert leadership. The professional qualifications of Managing Director in the River Basin Development Authority in Nigeria involve a background in engineering specifically in areas of Civil Engineering or Water Resources Engineering with professional certifications like being a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) or a registered engineer with COREN.
As confusion deepens, the Federal Government has yet to issue a formal response to the growing backlash. Stakeholders are calling for an urgent review of the appointments, advocating for a merit-based approach that prioritizes technical qualifications over political considerations. The outcome of this controversy may have significant implications for the operational efficiency of Nigeria’s river basin authorities and the country’s long-term water resource strategy.

… Constituents applaud RT Hon Ahmed Idris Wase for bringing healthcare closer to the people.
Patients who have benefited from the services of The Federal Medical Center, Wase, have commended the vision in setting up the facility saying it has provided the much needed healthcare they’ve lacked for decades.
The patients are drawn from communities in and around Plateau state including neighbouring states such as Bauch, Nasarawa and Taraba.
Expressing satisfaction with the state of equipment at the facility and the services provided, those who have had reasons to visit the FMC describe the facility as heaven sent and wondered how they could have fared without it
The establishment of The FMC, Wase, was facilitated by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives in the 9th Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase.
The vision became a reality after an MOU was signed between Plateau State and the Federal Ministry of Health on 17th August 2024 where Governor Mutfwang and the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Tunji Alausa, paid glowing tributes to the former Deputy Speaker for not only facilitating the FMC, but also the National Orthopedic Hospital Jos.
The commencement of operations by the Medical Center, Wase, on Wednesday, after the inauguration came as a big relief to many constituents of Wase and its environs, who have had to endure undue hardships in accessing medical care.
A lady who brought her sick child, Maimuna Mohammad, who had been booked for ante-natal procedures in Bauchi for her sick daughter was attended to at the FMC in Wase to the delight of her family who were grateful that they needed not to have travelled long distance to access quality medical care.
Maimuna , who is in her 40s, said in the past, she had to cope with high cost of transportation and “excruciating” pain of medical bills due to the absence of adequate medical care around her place of residence.
She was one of the first patients to arrive at the FMC Wase on Wednesday when it was opened, saying she had waited and prayed fervently to have a medical facility within her domain.
“My child has been crying all night and I had to borrow money to travel to Bauchi in the morning only to be informed that our hospital in Wase has started services and I went there and I was surprised to see doctors who attended to us and my child is recovering. I cried as if the world would end,” she told our reporter on Wednesday.
Similarly, 35-year-old Musa Shehu said he has been registered with a hospital in Jos for a long time and that he couldn’t afford private hospitals.
“So I am happy that the doctors are available to attend to us today. I have been waiting for this day,” Mr Shehu said.
Our correspondent who visited the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Wase, Plateau State, confirmed that doctors, nurses, laboratory scientists and attendants were busy attending to patients who had visited the facility in their large numbers.
“In fact, I don’t know if anyone will have the time to talk to you because we are very busy with patients” a medical doctor who does not want to be mentioned, told reporters at the health facility.
At the front desk of the facility, a nurse, who also does not want to be quoted, said as of Wednesday afternoon, 35 pregnant women were already attended to by the doctors, while more than 100 patients have registered for various ailments.
“Of the 35, 14 are new mothers. We are busy attending to accident victims and other emergencies and the number is increasing” the nurse said.
Another patient, Joseph Lipdo, who came from the neighboring Langtang, a community in Langtang North LGA which shares boundary with Wase, said as at 12 noon, he was attended to by the doctors.
Another patient who identified himself as Mr Isaac who is in his 60s, said visited the center from Taraba State for a check-up. He expressed delight for the proximity of the center which has provided succor to his medical needs.
“My mother cannot walk alone without being assisted. But now that the medical Center has begun operations, she has been attended to this morning and we have been asked to go for some medical tests, as usual,” Mallam Shehu told reporters.
This development marks a milestone in the healthcare sector of Plateau State, promising to enhance medical services and improve the quality of life for its residents as well as other citizens.
It is clear that Rt Hon Ahmed Idris Wase is among the few who have deepened the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to the grassroots where it is deeply appreciated in advancing healthcare infrastructure and ensuring accessible medical care for all.

Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt Hon Idris Ahmed Wase has done it again.
The astute lawmaker who is known for attracting projects to his state has this time, seen to the coming on stream of two important projects that will democratise access to healthcare in Nigeria.
Recall that while serving as Deputy Speaker in the 9th Assembly, Rt Hon Wase midwifed the National Orthopaedic hospital, Jos and the Federal Medical Center, Wase.
The story must be told, even though the erudite parliamentarian prefers to do his things without the kleig lights, that it was Rt Hon Wase who sponsored the bill forhe establishment of an orthopaedic hospital in the country which idea quickly gained traction and was immediately accepted by then President Muhammadu Buhari and had it implemented across other geopolitical zones in the country.
The bid to touch the lives of ordinary citizens has been in the character of Rt Hon Wase who as a ranking lawmaker, does not hesitate to put his best when it comes to improving the lot of the people and facilitating development across the country.
Barely four weeks ago, the former Deputy Speaker commissioned the National Open University in Wase to open opportunities for young Nigerians to acquire tertiary education and empower youths in his constituency and beyond with skills and knowledge to compete across the globe.
It is not surprising that Rt. Hon. Wase, who has aptly been described as a transformational leader has now witnessed the formal signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Federal Government and the Plateau State Government for the National Orthopedic Hospital, Jos and the federal Medical Centre, Wase.
Hon Tunji Alausa, Minister of State, Health and Social Welfare and Gov Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, accompanied by the full compliments of the State Executive Council and other dignitaries, attended the event.
Though Rt Hon Wase and the Governor belong to different parties, the need to fasttrack development and reach the grassroots subjugated partisan considerations but emphasized the synergy to bring about development for the overall interest of citizens, while at the same time presenting a veritable partnership between the National Assembly and the State Government for the benefit for the ordinary citizens, irrespective of political differences.
At the occasion which was held in Abuja, Gov Mutfwang paid glowing tributes to the ranking APC lawmaker representing Wase Federal constituency at the hallowed Green chambers of the National Assembly, Rt Hon Idris Ahmed Wase.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the hospital, promises a 100-bed capacity and was conceived to meet the orthopaedic health needs of Nigerians in the North Central Zone.
It bears restating that Rt Hon Wase initiated the establishment of the Orthopaedic Hospitals across the country which became a reality with the approval of former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2022 leading to the establishment of three more national orthopaedic hospitals across the country in Jalingo, Taraba State (North-East); Jos, Plateau State (North Central); and one in Benin, Edo State (South-South).
While on an inspection visit to the facility in the old Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) in January, Managing Director of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, North Central, Prof. Iche Onche, who is a consultant orthopaedic & trauma surgeon, commended the former Deputy Speaker for his foresight and commitment to healthcare.
Subsequently, the Federal Government, in August, approved the appointment of Dr Muhammad Shittu Adamu as the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Federal Medical Center, Wase.
Kachollom Daju, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, urged the new CMD to explore all necessary avenues to provide a conducive work environment and infrastructure aimed at achieving a high standard of health care.
The new FMC, according to Wase will provide facilities for diagnostic, curative, preventive and rehabilitative services in medical treatment at the same time construct, equip, maintain and operate such training schools, and similar institutions for providing the Medical Centres with appropriate staff.
The facility will also operate out-patient departments, laboratories, research or experimental stations and other similar institutions necessary for the effective functioning of the Medical Centres and at the same time, ensure that the standards of treatment and care provided at all establishments under its control and the standards of treatment and care provided for patients at those establishments are not below the required standards.
Rt Hon Wase has remained committed to creating opportunities for the teeming youths in his unflinching commitment to , not only his constituents but Nigeria in general, and fervently contributes to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu in bringing government closer to the people.
With what Rt Hon Wase is doing since the current administration was inaugurated last year, it is easy for citizens to see the good intentions of the current administration and how implementable its promise of a renewed hope for the country is.
Little wonder, many are beginning to cheer up and give the benefit of doubt to the current administration in its drive to transform the lives of citizens.

A former Member representing Shandam State constituency and Majority in the Plateau State House of Assembly from 2015 to 2019 Hon. Henry Yunkwap has to switched to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with his supporters.
Yunkwap earlier left the peoples democratic party PDP shortly after the Party primaries in 2023 general elections to labour party to contest elections.
The former Majority leader had been in talks with the PDP leadership in the local Government area and State for months before he moved to the party.
Declaring his return at his ward Derteng Federal Ward while presenting a letter to the ward chairman John Nanwe said his decision to return to his former home the peoples democratic party is born out of the track record amd democratic dividend the state Governor Caleb Mutfwang has demonstrated in the State and also the Party has been his home as the party remains the choice of the people in the state.
According to him his track record and wealth of experience as a grassroot politician will help the party in stabilizing the party in the state especially in his constituency as he will corporate and partner with stakeholders of the party in moving the party forward.
Receiving the former Majority leader and some of his supporters John Nanwe said the return of Henry Yunkwap to the party is a big win for the people’s democratic party PDP as he will add to the growth of the party and as the ward congress is around the corner the stage is set for a bigger, better and brighter future for the party.
He urged the returnees to abide by the rules and regulations of the Party as the umbrella is big enough to accommodate a lot of people and all will find a place of abode.
He congratulated them and called for unity among them.

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) is sensitising secondary school students in Plateau on consumer rights and enforcement.
The FCCPC Consumer and Business Education Officer, Mrs Bridget Etim said the initiative was to educate them on their rights and responsibilities as consumers of products and services.
Etim, who stated this on Wednesday in Jos during a sensitisation visit to schools, said that many Nigerians were unaware of their rights as consumers.
The consumer and business education officer emphasised that rather than insisting on their rights as enshrined in FCCPC Law, many consumers prefer to grumble without definite action.
She explained that the commission is an agency of the Federal Government that was established by FCCPC Act of 2018.
According to her, the core mandate of the commission is to promote fair business practices and
safeguard consumer interests.
Etim added that FCCPC works in synergy with sector regulators like the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration, and Control (NAFDAC), the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), and the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) among others.
She emphasised that the overall reason for the enlightenment campaign was to inculcate the concept of demanding and insisting on their rights as consumers of products and services.
“Today we have visited five schools to sensitize them, educate them on their rights, and also inaugurate the young consumer club in the various schools.
“And to also inform them that the commission has a national contest we organize every year.
“It is to get them prepared that any moment from now, they will be called upon to participate in the National Young Consumer Club.
“We want to catch them young. We want a situation whereby the young ones get to know their rights and responsibilities as consumers, so they will grow with it,” she added.
The principal of Government Senior Secondary School (GSS) Kufang, Mrs Nansing Emmanuel, said that her school was privileged to benefit from the programme.
Emmanuel said that most of the students, including teachers, were not familiar with FCCPC and the law.
The principal alluded to the fact that sometimes consumers buy things and discover that they are fake or not what they want but find it difficult to return them.
“If you take it back, nobody will take it. So I think today they know that there are people who can fight for them if there are such things.
“I think we are very privileged to have this. You talked about, they talked about having clubs, consumer protection clubs.
Some principles spoke on the importance of the sensitization principal of Founders High School, Jos, Mrs Folorunso Olajumoke, promised that the school would continue with sensitisation exercise.
Olajumoke stated that the school would give the materials provided by FCCPC to the students so that their parents could see them.
The agency visited over thirteen schools within plateau state which include GSS Kufang, Mutka Future Hope Academy, COCIN Secondary School Dadin Kowa Jos, and Elohim Private School, Founders High School Jos and Government College Jos. Rhemaville College, Air Force Girls Jos, Esteem Standard High School, Government Secondary School Laranto and Al-iman School among others.

The Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society, (NMGS) has asked that potentials in the mining sector be adequately harnessed to engage young people in businesses, boost the nation’s economy and create wealth as allowing the sector to be operated in the crude form is a minus to the revenue generation drive of governments.
The President of NMGS, Professor Akinade Olatunji made the plea ahead of the Society’s 59th Annual International Conference and Exhibition, AICE which is scheduled to take place in Jos, Plateau State from the 17th to the 22nd of March, 2024 with the theme: “Emerging Global Perspectives, Trends and Sustainable Development of Minerals and Energy Resources.”
Professor Olatunji who spoke with journalists in Jos on Friday reiterated that indiscriminate mining activities is robbing the country of the much needed resources and called for the repositioning of the sector with relevant personnel and technology so the country could reap the gains embedded in coordinated mining activities.
He also called for the immediate address of the activities of the illegal miners through the strengthening and implementation of relevant laws.
According to him, “… There’s a difference between illegal mining and artisanal mining. Illegal mining is any mining done contrary to the prescribed laws of the land. It could be small scale, it could be medium scale. It could be large scale. Artisanal miners use crude implements.
“Addressing the issue of illegal mining is a national and international problem globally, anywhere you have mining activities there are always scavengers lurking around. In Nigeria, we have the law and it is very clear. The law must be implemented… We have said that one of the weak points that prevents the enforcing the law is the lack of adequate manpower. If the government will first strengthen the manpower, train the manpower and give them the mobility to be able to move, things would improve.
“We should stop paying lip service to this but put our money where our mouth is by investing heavily in retooling and equipping the Mining Inspectorate offices. We have so many people without jobs, if the government brings them on board, it will improve the mining sector and will stop these illegal activities because government is losing a lot money on a daily basis across the country. The government needs to employ technology to monitor the sector.”
He revealed that the event has other sub-themes as Unlocking the wealth creation potentials of the artisanal and small-scale mining subsector through innovative implementation of a robust governance structure; opportunities and challenges of renewable energy potentials in Nigeria; management of Nigerian water resources and flood vulnerability; geosciences perspectives to incessant road and building collapse in Nigeria; medical geology, geo-tourism and geo-heritage as new geoscience frontiers of wealth creation, among others and would feature paper presentations, excursion, quiz competition and others.

Civil society organisations in plateau state through one of its member Comrade Steve Aluko, has stated that the logjam over the non-swearing-in of the 16 All Progressive Congress (APC) members affirmed by the Court of Appeal as members of the Plateau State House of Assembly is robbing the state of quality legislation.
Speaking in an interview with Tribune Online, the human rights activist said the unfortunate situation is gradually taking its toll on the governance of Plateau, adding that there are many things that the executive cannot do without a functional assembly.
According to him, the better those at the center of the imbriglio realized this and sheath their swords for the -interest of the state, adding that the time of politics has passed and what the citizens are expecting is the dividends of democracy, this cannot be realized without a functional Assembly.
Immediate past governor of plateau state and senator representing plateau south at the national assembly Simon lalong has appealed to his predecessor Caleb Mutfwang to urge the speaker the speaker plateau state House of assembly, Gabriel Dewan, to swear in the sixteen elected members which include 15 from APC and one Labour Party members who were declared winners by the Appeal Court.
Senator Simon lalong stated this in Jos at the church service of the state publicity secretary of the all progressives Congress APC in the state Slyvanus Namang said the current political stalemate in the state is occasioned by the non availability of a complete members in the state assembly saying how can only one member laying claim to been the only member in the state assembly
He called on the state governor Caleb Mutfwang who is the leader in the state to use his good office in uniting the people and allowing for democratic rule to take place in the state
He urged the speaker to swear in the new members without any delay “since the appellate court had reaffirmed them as the authentic winners of the election.”
The speaker in January said he would not swear in the new members until the court’s verdict on the suit filed by the sacked 16 PDP lawmakers.
However, the Appeal Court on Tuesday dismissed the suit and fined the sacked lawmakers N128 million for seeking review of its judgment.
The 16 PDP lawmakers have been aggrieved ever since they were axed by the appellate court in what was later considered an erroneous judgement based on the Supreme Court’s decision on similar matters.
However, their latest efforts to have the judgement reviewed yielded no fruit.
It is obvious that Plateau people did not make a mistake voting Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, as the chosen Governor of Plateau State during the March 18, 2023 gubernatorial election.
Since he was sworn in last May 29, 2023, he has left no one in doubt as to his mission in the state. In fact, he has continued to confounɗ those who did not believe in his abilities to take charge of his government.
Drawing from the promises he made during his campaigns, he has matched them with action, particularly when he repeatedly underscored that the payment of salary is never an achievement; but an obligation while re-echoing the Biblical injunction that “a labourer is worthy of his wages”. The civil servants have never had it so good since he came on board.
To get workers satisfied and productive, Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang is commited to cultivating a collaborative bond with all labour unions to fortify the civil service and ensure efficient service delivery to the people of Plateau.
At inauguration, Governor Mutfwang who met a demoralised civil service on strike with four months unpaid salaries amounting to over N11 billion, cleared it within his few months in office and has continued with payment of wages and gratuity of public servants.
Interestingly, Plateau is up-to-date in the payment of salaries and also has commenced payment of pension, gratuities and death benefits arrears from 1986 to date. He has ordered for upward review of monthly pension with effect from January, 2024.
During the campaigns for election he stood on the fact that he will not sack any worker who was duly employed in line with the civil service rule, rather he would create room for more employment, particularly of young persons.
Even for the fact that he was misconstrued for setting aside the employment made by the immediate past government, he stayed true to his words and went ahead to verify the process to ensure credibility and fairness. At the completion of the verification excicise, 3879 workers were found employable after strenuously going through the list.
Governor Mutfwang has shown human face and determined to empower Plateau youths irrespective of faith, ethnic and political affiliation. He has injected the new workers into the service for efficient service delivery to the development of Plateau.
These are interesting scenarios taken into account that government after another has come and gone without any of them taking the gauntlet to address the issue. Over the years, many pensioners have taken ill, while some have died as they waited for their pension and gratuities.
He has also implemented hazard allowances for medical doctors, nurses and health workers, coupled with his interventions for the accreditation of courses mainly in the state owned tertiary institutions. No wonder, he has been adjudged by the Nigeria Labour Congress as civil servant friendly-Governor.
His harmonious working relationship with leaders of joint unions was cultivated in the interest of peace and development of Plateau. No wonder, he has taken time to meet with the unions’ leadership to explain position of government regarding these critical areas.
Governor Mutfwang in an effort to motivate the civil service, has continued with the implementation of N30,000 minimum wage and an approval of N12,000 to each civil servant as palliative for fuel subsidy removal within a period of time.
Knowing that the state is noted for agricultural production, he has prepared well for the farmers generally. He has secured over 200 truck of fertilizer and it is subsidized for farmers in the state.
He knows that many communities are being invaded by armed bandits, and it is difficult for farmers to access their farms, the governor has not lost sleep to ensure that security is available to protect and to enable them go to farm.
Apart from the distribution of grains and other household items for indigent citizens in the state, Governor Mutfwang has procured 15 luxurious buses designated for strategic routes within the state to ease cost of transportation for citizens. He has resuscitated the moribund rail transport system within Jos Bukuru Metropolis. All these was to boost the state’s economy and improve the standard of living of the people.
On improving infrastructure in the state, despite facing huge security challenges and legal disputes that initially hindered the smooth commencement of his administration, His Excellency Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has remained steadfast in addressing the state’s challenges and delivering democratic dividends across all sectors of the economy.
Mutfwang, the workaholic governor has remained the people’s hero by setting up construction sites all over the state. Having met most roads in some parts of the metropolis in a total state of disrepair, he initiated action to take those roads head on by fixing them almost at the same time. By that singular action, his name would for long remain on the lips of the people of the state; who have always identified with the government that works for them.

All they need is the involvement and assurances of the government to carry them along,” Dr Shitgurum said, adding that frequent liaison between Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and the entrepreneurs will also go a long way in encouraging citizens to come home and invest”.
Explaining further, Dr Shitgurum said that involvement means government partnership; waivers on some stringing conditions; the provision of security environment and protection of their properties, in addition to constant interactions with the Governor and his team will go a long way too.
The Chairman noted that once these are done, more companies will spring up in the state, which he said will accommodate and reduce the high number of unemployed people in the state, and by extension, the reduction in crimes and criminality on the Plateau.
Dr Shitgurum assured, that once government involves itself by promoting and strengthening Public Private Partnership (PPP), the participation and establishment of industries by the citizens will be encouraged, in turn begat are resonance effect that attract the participation of non indigenous investors, both Local and foreign, and the gift of natural resources and human capital will be profoundly harnessed on the Plateau in great abundances .
The Chairman of the Duncan Group posited that as a further boast, Government should proffer means of ensuring the return of relative peace in the state, which he said can be achieved if the Governor adopts new and practical security architectures.
According to him, this, will encourage not only indigenous investors, but will attract more businesses to the State by other Nigerians and foreign investors.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State Council has received with shock news of the gruesome murder of Mr. Sylvanus Namang, a veteran journalist and politician who was shot in Pankshin over the weekend.
Chairman of the council Ayuku Pwaspo in a press statement said the late publicity secretary was a thorough bred practitioner, Mr. Namang had a distinguished career that saw him serving as Editor of The Nigeria Standard, General Manager of Plateau Publishing Corporation (PPC), Director with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), aide to some key Nigerian statesmen, with his last duty post being the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Plateau State Chapter.
The late Sylvanus Namang contributed in no small measure to the growth of journalism in the state and beyond, and dedicated his life towards the progress and development of the country, both as a public servant and a politician.

The recent killing of Mr. Namang and other victims attest to the precarious situation under which Plateau people live.

The Union calls on the Police and other security agencies not to leave any stone unturned to apprehend the perpetrators of the dastardly act and make them face the full wrath of the law, as well as double efforts to bring the pain in the land to an end by restoring security, law and order across the length and breadth of the state.

A team of accredited observers, has commended Gov. Caleb Mutfwang and the people, over the peaceful conduct of the re-run election in Plateau North.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the people of Plateau North and Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency, went to the polls on Saturday to elect a senator and a member of the House of Representatives.
NAN reports that the re-run election was to fill the vacancies created by the sack of former Senate Minority Leader, Simon Mwadkon and former House of Representative member, Musa Agah, by the Appeal Court.
The appellate court hinged its judgment on a lack of structure by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Prince Stafford Bisong, leader of the team, who briefed newsmen on Monday in Jos, said that Mutfwang, and indeed Plateau citizens, averted crisis, which was eminent as a result of the removal of the PDP from the ballot.
“We commend Plateau citizens, who participated actively in this democratic process by coming to cast their votes peacefully and remaining informed about the issues that shape our society.
“Their votes and voice matter, and their engagement is crucial to the vitality of our democracy.
“We also commend security agencies for providing adequate security during and after the elections,” Bisong said.
According to him, the strength of any democracy lies in the institutions that uphold it, and called on all stakeholders, including government bodies, civil society and the media, to respect these institutions.
The team leader advised that as Nigerians continued to promote democracy, they should let unity be their strength and the principles of democracy be their guide.
According to Bisong also, the protection of democracy is a shared responsibility that goes beyond the interests of individuals.
Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB), a parastatals of Plateau State ministry of Urban Development have sealed a three storey building shopping malls that is under going construction at Terminus, former Mr Biggs, Jos.
Daily Champion reports that the decision of Plateau state Government to haul the construction work followed collapsed in some parts of the storey building which occurred on Sunday 4th February, 2024.
The shopping malls that had about 180 shops was under construction since the previous administration of Simon Lalong.
Addressing newsmen Monday after touring the building , General Manager JMDB, Arch. Hart Bonkat revealed the structure did not meet a required standard right from onset as the owner defied all stop work ordered given to them.
“Unfortunately today I would say we have been vindicated because we have been to this side over five times. We have issued stop work orders, we had even issued demolition notice for work to stop but the owners are persistent and refused to stop. We have told the quality of the job been done here cannot be ascertain and we cannot approved of it.
“And it is important to put to note that this whole structure that your seen here has no approval. We have tried as much as possible to stop them doing the work but they keep on, and in fact we put in one of the building that we are going to demolish and so were going to do what we say we did, and this is going to be testament for the readiness of the JMDB which is now a unique organization to make quacks do not take over side and produced whatever they want to produce.
“We had some flenzy drawings that they submitted in the office, which raised eyebrows because the project of this magnitude we know the quantity and quality they supposed to have come with it. But unfortunately it has less than 20 pages including structural design building and on paper it show they are planning to have about 20 shops per each floor. But I can assured you after counting is about 180 shops.
“The name of the owner I don’t know but the files said one ‘Metal Nigeria’ supposed to be the owner, and they have some representative to sent claiming to be the architect of which were yet to verify because from our records the person they had not registered, does not qualified to be on this site in the first place. For the records, we have not meet any engineer or architectural designer to be able to tell us those who are doing this project. Then we have also raised those observation severally by asking who is the engineer on site but were unable to source them”, the GM narrated.
Commissioner Plateau State Ministry of Urban development, Hon. Joshua Laven assured the law will take it course immediately to ensure the right thing is done as the present administration of Caleb Mutfwang would not tolerate attitude of unhealthy practice where certain persons which lacks requisite qualification to practice but venture into construction business to continue gambling with Peoples life.
“The building would not stand the test of time as it contravened the law of the land because they were served notices not one not twice. The building would endanger the lives of thousands Nigerians who would come and do their business activities. This quackery wound continue under this administration.”
However, some of the experts and stakeholders in building and construction industry who were scene of the incident such as;Oke Ezema, chairman Building collapse prevention of the Nigerian Institution and purchase, Engr. Yakubu Ashoms, Chairman Nigerian society of engineers as well as Builder Olukayode Adedeji adjudged that findings revealed right foundation to a stage where the structure is there no approval and proper coordination.
Tyosar Terver Zonal Coordinator North Central, Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute, admitted that as a research institute their duty is to collect samples of soils and other materials in the building whenever incident of collapsed occur to run a lab test and from there to come out with findings and ascerta

Isah jalo has found himself at the centre of a burgeoning scandal after reports emerged that he had purportedly taken possession of a Hilux vehicle with registration number CT 41 B306 allocated for official use within the framework of the Accelerated Area Council Title and Sectional Title Reissuance Scheme (AACTRIS).

They have called upon the FCT Minister and the AGIS Acting Director to take decisive action to recover the missing vehicle and hold those responsible to account.

People view Isah Jalo’s alleged actions as a betrayal of public trust and a stark reminder of the challenges facing governance in the FCT.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Plateau State Council, has expressed deep concerns and sadness over the recurrence of unwarranted attacks and killings of innocent citizens in Mangu Local Government Area.
The Council commiserates with the people of Mangu, the government, and the people of Plateau State over these unfortunate incidents, which led to the loss of lives and destruction of property.

Stakeholders have urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to beam its searchlight on the role of the management of American International School Abuja (AISA) as it investigates alleged $1 million in advance school fees paid by Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State.
The stakeholders who spoke with our correspondents on condition of anonymity advised the EFCC to thoroughly investigate all parties involved and to hold any individual(s) or organisation found culpable to account.
It would be recalled that Yahaya Bello paid upfront to the school, ostensibly as fees for his children and wards studying at AISA to the tune of nearly one million US dollars ($1,000,000. 00).
It is already in the public domain that the EFCC is investigating this huge upfront school fees paid, which is said to be clearly in contravention of Nigerian economic and financial laws.
Our correspondents gathered that the EFCC seized $760,910.84 out of the $1 million that Bello paid to AISA as advanced school fees for four children until graduation, because it suspects this to be a case of alleged money laundering.
It is an open secret that after the confiscation of part of the advance school fees, the EFCC invited and interrogated the ASIA Head, Mr Greg Hughes, and some management staff about the funds.
The sources said that during the interrogation of officials of the school, the EFCC noted that the advanced school fees were being treated as proceeds of an alleged crime.
The stakeholders who urged the EFCC to dig deep in its investigation said that there were allegations that the school might be used as a channel for laundering money.
They emphasised that while the commission continues to grill Yahaya Bello and his conspirators, the management of ASIA, particularly Mr. Hughes needs to answer some pertinent questions begging for answers.
According to them, it would be logical for the school to exonerate itself from the corruption allegations to restore the confidence of Nigerians in the system.
They pointed out that parents and, indeed, Nigerians would like to get convincing explanations from the school on the following:
I. Why was the Head of School, alongside the Business Manager of the American International School Abuja, arrested by the EFCC?
II. What were the circumstances that led Mr. Hughes, as head of the school, to receive $1 million from a serving Nigerian governor, purportedly as school fees in advance, for his children? Could Mr. Hughes claim he is not aware that this is in direct contravention of provisions of the Special Control Unit against Money Laundering Act and, therefore, potentially an economic crime?
III. What plans does the school management under Mr. Hughes have to recover the sum of N3bn that the EFCC seized from AISA under his watch as Head of School? It is to be reiterated that the said particular amount is currently the subject matter directly of an active investigation by the anti-corruption agency against this same serving Nigerian governor.
This unsavoury development also begs the critical question of whether indeed AISA had a functioning corporate governance model.
Evidently, members of the public who may be interested in making AISA as a school destination of choice for their children and wards will be a little wary going forward.
There is no doubt that the rumours about how the Head of School has handled this worrying situation may have compromised the image, reputation, and performance profile of an otherwise flagship institution. There are serious concerns among AISA parents and stakeholders that the Head of School is not being forthright about his role in this alleged sordid affair.
Amid bourgeoning hopes that Plateau State will return to its place of unity, peace, and intercultural relations and hybridity, occasionally, for the past two decades now, the question of when we would get there begs for deep reflection due to the disappointing and calumniatory insurgencies that keep occurring in villages and towns of our state. One among the few that informed the writing of this piece is the 2023 Christmas Eve massacre of innocent, hard-working, and peaceful people of multifarious communities in Barkin Ladi and Bokkos. Unfortunately, this dreadful massacre occurred when Plateau people and myriad Nigerians had raised hopes about the Tinubu/Shetima Administration’s ability to fight insecurity, given there has been a colossal improvement in the fight against all kinds of insurgencies in the country. However, the Christmas Eve attacks on Bokkos and Barkin Ladi and a few more create more doubt than the short-term hope raised in people’s minds. So, the question of when we will return to our former or better days is preeminent. When would we get there? This question is necessary for several, but a few are: Security Outlet of the Country: One of the prime concerns Plateau people at home and in the diaspora share about the Barkin Ladi and Bokkos Christmas Eve attacks relates to the response of the security agencies in these two local governments and the state. In this age of technological advances, globalization and mobility, social media traction, and regionalism, circulating information about any activity, place, or thing is not supposed to be hard, unlike decades back. Information is circulated within the shortest time possible, with little or no secrecy. The exchange of information through social media is as liquid as water and can be as fast as the same. Therefore, since Nigerian security agencies belong to these modern trends, they should not claim ignorance about attacks like this. Belonging to different WhatsApp forums, on December 24th, I read messages around 12 am – 2 am saying, “Pray for Bokkos,” “Bokkos under heavy attack by the militia,” “Oh Lord, have mercy.” The same messages were posted on various WhatsApp statuses of people from Plateau and their allies. Reading such posts and messages, you would expect the attacks not to last long since the incidents have been reported and circulated quickly. Opposite to the thinking of many, as of today (one week later), over two hundred people have lost their lives, churches have been burned to the ground, businesses and farmlands have been destroyed, and hundreds of people are being forced into Internally Displaced People’s (IDP) Camps. Bandits are moving to other parts of the state to smaller communities in Mangu and Jos East to carry out similar attacks. On the other hand, there has been no arrest of the masterminds of these vicious, brutal, and heinous activities. Is this war or genocide that the Plateau people are not aware of?
When would those militias be arrested? When would we get back to the old days? We never had it this bad on the Plateau from Independence to the 2000s. Justice is taking too long for Plateau. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu: On the same concern, President Tinubu, I am calling upon you to act, step up, and ensure all the interventions are taken in Barkin Ladi and Bokkos, respectively. Relief materials and verbal condemnation of these attacks are never enough. Verbal condemnation by government via press releases has resulted in more communities being attacked. We want you to act and bring the perpetrators of those malevolent, malicious acts of criminality and their sponsors to book. We want similar actions and steps taken in Mangu in May to be taken in Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, Jos East, and other affected LGAs of Plateau State. Displaced people must return to their homes expediently. Mr. President, sir, you must act now. Allow no one to spoil your tenure as the president of Nigeria. You started well on security issues in May; return to that plan and work with it. Two things your administration must continue to prioritize for the common person are security and a better economy. If the country is secure, our economy will undoubtedly improve. Plateau People and Plateau Politicians: We can only achieve the peace we want through unity and support, each to another, one ethnic group to another, and one people of faith to another. Time is not on our side anymore, and we cannot remain divided because of political interests, ethnicity, or religious and denominational beliefs. Plateau has just one enemy, the enemy who comes in the night to butcher hundreds of people and run away. We must unite against this enemy. We must rally around the state and federal governments to resist this enemy. Whether PDP, APC, LP, Christian, Muslim, ECWA, COCIN, Catholic, or Pentecostal. United, we stand, but divided, we fall. Politicians should not be only loud about their political ambition but should also speak against the genocide going on against our people and our land. I call on Plateau politicians, religious leaders, and traditional rulers to act now to the best of their abilities. Teach every community on the Plateau to stand on their guard. While we pray, we must also watch. I also call on all the elder statesmen on the Plateau to step up and act quickly. Seek an audience with Mr. President and devise a lasting solution to these abrades and imbroglio. I warn! No one should politicize insurgencies and death. Plateau was a peaceful and united state twenty years ago, and it will return to its place of traction in tourism and socio-political activities. Finally, I call on Plateau elites, masses, and Plateau in the diaspora to never give up; we are almost there. My sincere condolences to the families and communities who lost their loved ones, businesses, and farmlands in cold blood on the Christmas Eve attacks in Barkin Ladi and Bokkos. I pray you find comfort soon. God Bless Nigeria and God Bless our beloved Plateau State.
The Federal Government has begun deployment of food and non-food relief materials to communities and victims of the Christmas Eve attacks by marauding gunmen in Plateau State.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, is already in the state to coordinate humanitarian responses and has since visited affected communities for an on-the-spot assessment in the affected area with her counterpart from the Ministry of Defence as well as service chiefs.
The special adviser on media and publicity to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Rasheed Olanrewaju Zubair, said in a statement Wednesday morning that Edu also visited churches and some Internally Displaced persons (IDP) camps, where she addressed worshippers and victims seeking refuge.
She assured them of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to bringing lasting solutions in terms of response security and the resettlement of people resident in the state. She said humanitarian relief would be made available almost immediately in line with the presidential directive, stating that durable solutions would be provided while ‘we rebuild’ to help them return to their ancestral homes.
The minister also said her ministry will partner with the Nigerian military and the Plateau State Government for the onward distribution of the relief materials.
She said: “The President has asked us to come to Plateau State to see what is on ground; he has also directed the immediate deployment of relief materials, including food items like rice, grains, vegetable oil, and non-food items like mattresses, clothes, and blankets, among others, as well as other personal things they will need while we plan for more durable solutions to their needs to enable them to go back to their ancestral homes.”
We are thankful to God as we gracefully walk into 2024 with hope and faith despite the waves of pain that lie deep in our hearts.
The Association of local government chairmen plateau state chapter heartly wish all the good and loving people of plateau state a happy new year.
Your sacred tears on our grieving faces this new year are the eloquent marks of our love for our departed angels. We are comforted with the assurance that “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble”.
We believe as this 2024 comes with its challenges may the good tidings of the new year bring fruitfulness to us all
For each stormy cloud, there is a beautiful rainbow. May this new year relieve us of this pain and fill our hearts with comfort, peace, and joy that comes from above.
May the year 2024 come with new possibilities and opportunities for Plateau State as trust God for a state that is Secure, United, and Prosperous.
The horrendous and genocidal killings and destruction of property and other means of livelihood by very wicked, evil, criminal militias in over 20 villages of Bokkos and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State is reprehensible, ungodly, satanic, totally unacceptable and condemnable. As a church, we are pained that this attack was carried out against innocent and harmless Christians who were climaxing preparations to celebrate Christmas. Unfortunately, their joy was turned into pain, weeping and sorrow.
Ecwa President worldwide Rev Stephen Baba panya stated this in a press statement said the killings are babaric and unwholesome were hundreds of people were killed and many injured leaving families displaced during Christmas celebration pray that God will comfort the families of the bereaved and the entire church of God; and bring healing and restoration to all the injured. I appeal to relevant agencies of government and NGOs to provide relief materials to the affected communities. I also appeal for adequate deployment of security forces to forestall any further attacks.
If not for reasons of genocide and ethnic cleansing, what could be the reason for such unprovoked, premeditated, simultaneous and well-coordinated attacks on Christmas eve against communities that are predominantly Christian. This speaks volume of the evil intentions of the attackers and their sponsors. It is very clear that some people have vowed never to allow peace reign on the Plateau.
Reports indicate that well over 100 people were killed and many injured, with very gory sights of victims on the hospital with machete cuts of very beastly inhuman nature. The attacks were carried out on Sunday 24th December, 2023 between 8.30pm and 12 midnight, a period of almost four (4) hours without any form of response from the security agencies. The attackers, as was the case in previous attacks, had enough time to execute their evil plan. In some communities such as Maiyanga in Bokkos LGA, well over 80 percent of houses and crops were completely burnt down.
While commending the Plateau State Governor for his swift response to the attacks, and doing all he could within his power, in mobilizing security agents as fast as he could, to stem further carnage, these attacks have again raised a number of questions. How possible is it for such massive and well-coordinated attacks to take place across two local government areas without any iota of intelligence? Why did security agencies fail to respond swiftly despite several distress calls? Why the choice of Christmas eve for the attacks despite assurances from security agencies to provide adequate security during the yuletide? Why have these militias been allowed to continue doing their havoc despite the fact that their enclaves, from where they lunch these heinous attacks, like Mahanga and other such enclaves, are common knowledge to the general populace, and especially the security agencies? While it is not my intention to draw any inference, it is pertinent to stress that these are questions that can diminish public confidence in government’s ability to decisively address insecurity on the Plateau and other parts of the country. These questions must be sincerely answered if this tragedy is to be prevented in future.
These attacks once again call for strategic intelligence, synergy, sincerity of purpose, commitment and the political will to address insecurity on the Plateau in particular and the country at large. I urge the government and security agencies to track, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators and sponsors of this heinous crime against humanity. The message must be unambiguous that no one is above the law. The only way to rekindle the hope of Nigerians and build public confidence in the government is to bring all the criminal elements to book.
Churches on the Plateau, especially COCIN, ECWA, Catholic, Baptist, Pentecostal Churches and many others, have lost many of our members in these attacks. I expect the government for once to take decisive action on this. Romans 13:3-5 states that those in governing authorities, are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoers.” Let this be seen to be the case in the case of Plateau.
As peace-loving Church organizations, COCIN, ECWA, Catholic, Baptist, Pentecostal and other churches in Nigeria alike, have invested heavily in all positive aspects of the lives of millions of Nigerians irrespective of their faith and tribes. It beats our imagination as to why we have been made to constantly face cold blooded deaths, been constantly subjected to IDP Camps, and our places of worship and communities outrightly uprooted by those we welcome to live with us.
I call on the Federal Government of Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu and his security outfits to put a stop to this unwarranted menace and others against the Church in Nigeria and other innocent Nigerians that have been held captive in their own motherland. There is so much of patience that individuals and communities can sustain as they have already taken more than their fair share of buffetings. Also, the government must do all within its powers to resettle hundreds of thousands of Nigerians practically sacked from their ancestral homes by these criminal militias and other groups.
Nevertheless, we as Christians take solace in the fact that no matter what, ultimately, our God is able to deliver us. No matter how long it will take, good will always triumph over evil. When the Israelites faced a similar situation, after several hundreds of years of oppression, maltreatment and genocide by their Egyptian slave masters, Moses said to them, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again.” (Exod.14:13).
As we stand firm to see God’s deliverance, I appeal to all Christians to remain calm, peaceful and prayerful. Our help will surely come from above, the maker of heaven and earth, for our God, neither slumbers nor sleeps ( Psalms 121:4).
I pray that the year 2024 will bring forth greater love, peace, unity and progress for our beloved country Nigeria.
Rev. (Dr.) Stephen Baba Panya ECWA President Worldwide

Today we have every reason to continue with the NYSC scheme”

It is my desire that this place will be transformed into a secondary school in the near future. Beyond the construction of this physical structure. As the party Factional Chairman Ishaya Itse said the kangaroo primaries election of the party conducted by the self acclaim Chairman of the party Rufus Bature which produced Dr. Nentawe Yilwada as Governship Candidate is non and void which doesn’t exist in the eyes of the law.
The Factional Chairman of the party in the state , Ishaya Itse was speaking to group of journalists in a press conference held 11th November 2023 in Jos , plateau state capital.
He Commended the Immediate past Governor of the state now Minister of labour and employment, Simon Bako Lalong , John Daafan, and others over their victory at the court of Appeal Abuja, however Commended the jurists that delivered the judgement whom he described as fearless who believed they have to pass the judgement with human face irrespective of whose ox is gore.

Upon my retirement from the Nigeria Air Force on 28 November 2019, following several years of distinguished military service as an Instructor Pilot and General Service Star (GSS), I made the decision to venture into active politics by putting myself forward for consideration by the people regarding the seat of member of Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. My biggest motivation to contest the election of the 25th February, 2023 was borne out of my patriotism to serve my beloved people of Plateau South Senatorial District and the Nigerian nation in another way.
In a historic election that was devoid of violence, extreme partisanship, and ethno-religious polarization, you accorded me the highest honour of my life when you overwhelmingly selected me as your Distinguished Senator.
In that election, your message as electorate was loud and clear as expressed in the winning margin of 57,100 votes. Such was the strong expression of your will at the polls that the blind could see it and the deaf could hear it. I make bold to say that even the numb could feel it! Your momentous decision to propel me to victory with your votes reverberated across the nation. I couldn’t be prouder!
However, by the decision of the Court of Appeal handed down on the 7th of November, 2023 which nullified the clearly unassailable mandate you entrusted in me, seems as though that hallowed courtroom, in isolation, is the only avenue that couldn’t get your loud and clear message of my anointing as your Senator when you congregated at your various polling units on the day of election.
Throughout the just concluded windy judicial process, it became very clear that on the issue of “nomination and sponsorship of candidates”, the Orwellian philosophy comes to mind for our great party, the PDP on the Plateau whereby, “all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.” Whatever might have informed this selective approach by the Court has only foisted on us one standout consequence: The trivialization of the mandate you gave me.
Let me, however, be quick to add that, while we do not necessarily agree with this judicial outcome, it is profitable wisdom in our society’s collective interest that we all remain calm in the abiding faith that the future holds even greater promise for the Plateau South Senatorial District. Do not, as a forward looking people, lose your head!
When I put forward myself to serve you in an elective capacity, it was never my consideration that the winner of the Senatorial contest would be decided through a protracted legal process, just like the one we have had. For me, I hold the view that elections ought to be won and lost through the ballot box, and any judicial resolution should be in tandem with the people’s wishes. Regrettably though, this was not what played out in court.
Nevertheless, at this special moment, I find your love and support for me more reassuring like never before; and let me also take a moment to reassure you that I will not withdraw from the political landscape as it is erroneously assumed by the opponents of social change, we shall stand and fall together!
The fact is not lost on me that leadership is not necessarily all about a given position; but it is more about the people’s trust in one’s ability to carve a progressive path for the good of society. On this score, and for the legitimacy I enjoy from you as your leader, let me renew my promise to you that I will carry on providing succour to you, being my fellow constituents, within the ambit of my God given endowment.
I see my relationship with you as a never-ending love story and in the spirit of that mutual love between and among us, I undertake to remain in your service, to carry on representing our collective interest, and to stand shoulder to shoulder with you in defence of our freedom and democracy.
I am not abandoning the struggle! I am here to stay!
Thank you for your immense support! May God bless us all!

The appeal by the Allied Peoples Movement, APM seeking to nullify the election of President Tinubu has been withdrawn by the political party and subsequently struck out by the Nigerian Supreme Court.
The party had claimed that the placeholder nominated by the president, Ibrahim Masari, was not replaced within the 14 days stipulated by Section 33 of the Electoral Act.
At the hearing on Monday the lead counsel for the party, Chukwuma -Machukwu Ume told the court that their appeal was not premised on double nomination.
He insisted that the Vice President, Kashim Shettima was illegally nominated.
The court asked if the APM had anything to gain from the matter.
“What will you gain if you win this appeal? There are other appeals that are asking for something substantial.
There is nothing to gain but to give us work to do. You are not asking us to put your candidate there as president,” the panel led by John Okoro said.
The APM lawyer, however, applied to withdraw his appeal.
APC, INEC, Ibrahim Massari, and Tinubu’s counsels did not object.
“Having been withdrawn, the appeal is hereby struck out,” Okoro said.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and legal representatives of President Bola Tinubu have expressed their opposition to the admission of fresh documents against President Tinubu in the Supreme Court.
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, had presented the evidence and requested the Supreme Court to consider it.
Speaking at the court on Monday, his lead counsel, Chris Uche, SAN, described the matter as a grave and constitutional matter.
He urged the court to adopt the application and grant their request.
Presenting his argument, he said,“The issue involving Mr Tinubu’s certificate is a weighty, grave, and constitutional one, which the Supreme Court should admit. I urge the court to admit the fresh evidence of President Tinubu’s academic records from CSU presented by Atiku.
The Supreme Court must take a look at Mr Tinubu’s records and reach a decision devoid of technicality”.
INEC lawyer, Abubakar Mahmoud, urged the Supreme Court to dismiss Atiku’s application seeking to present Tinubu’s academic records
Tinubu’s lead counsel, Wole Olanipekun, SAN argued that INEC should have been a party at the deposition proceedings in the US, noting that the CSU depositions are dormant until the deponent comes to court and testify.
In a landmark decision, the Appeal Court sitting in Abuja has nullified the election of the Senate Minority Leader, Sen Simon Mwadkon. According to the Appeal Court, the PDP did not validly nominate Sen. Simon Mwadkon.
Delivering judgement the three man panel of justice Daudu Williams P.J E.O.Abangs, and Mohammed Mustapha says it is their view that court orders were not fully complied with by the PDP as 12 LGAs didn’t participate in the congress. The court also ordered a fresh election for the Plateau North Senatorial seat. The verdict came on Sunday, October 21, following a legal battle between Gyang Yaya Zi and the Labour Party (LP) as the 1st and 2nd Appellants, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Simon Mwadkwon, and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respondents for the Plateau State Northern Senatorial District.
In suit number CA/J/EP/PL/SEN/15/2023, declared the previous election of Sen. Simon Mwadkon null and void. In a momentous ruling, the court nullified the election of Sen Mwadkon and ordered a re-run election to be conducted within 90 days to determine the new representative for the Plateau North Senatorial District
In a comprehensive judgment, the Court cited non-compliance with a subsisting court order as a key factor in the decision. The pursuit of due process, the Court declared, necessitates a fresh election for the Plateau North Senatorial seat meaning the people’s democratic party PDP will not be participating in the rerun elections as declared by the appeal court
The ramifications of this ruling are sure to have a significant impact on the political landscape, and it raises questions about the legitimacy of previous elections. Stay tuned for further developments on this critical matter as the Plateau North Senatorial seat ruling has become a subject of intense scrutiny and speculation which may affect other pending cases in Plateau State.
The attention of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment has been drawn to a press release issued by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on 18th October 2023, wherein it alleged that the Honourable Minister, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong is moving to undermine the critical Labour-Federal Government Agreement of October 2, 2023.
We wish to unequivocally refute the allegation and put it on record that it is unfounded.
Let it be reiterated that since assuming office and upon the dispute between the various groups within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) being brought to his attention, the Honourable Minister has given consistent, adequate and fair attention to the matter with a view to resolving it.
Several meetings have been held to resolve the issue with representatives of the disputing groups, and the efforts are still ongoing.
Therefore, it is not correct to suggest that the Minister is supporting any of the groups in the course of the negotiations.
Members of the NURTW, the NLC, and the entire Labour movement should be assured that the Minister, as Chief Conciliator, will continue to work with all parties to ensure that there is reconciliation, harmony and industrial peace.

Concerned and Patriotic Movement of Nigerians, FCT Chapter has raised alarm over an uncontrollable tension among the aspirants jostling for the position of SA land to the Hon. Minister of FCT, Barr. Nyesom Wike, as the immediate past director of Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS), Isah Jalo, has intensified lobbying the Permanent Secretary of FCT, Mr Olusade Adesola, with a wholesome amount of dollars to convince the Minister to consider him.
Some of those aspiring for the position are surprised as Jalo, along with his family members, worshipped at the Federal capital development Authority mosque on Friday, September 29 2023, and after that, proceeded to a private meeting with the Permanent Secretary at the Minister’s block of the Federal capital development Authority.
It is no longer news that the former AGIS director and the permanent secretary have been partners in defrauding the federal capital development agency hence the need for the plot to return to the FCT as the SA Land to the Minister.
The said Isah Jalo has served as the director of AGIS for 13 years before the directive by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan, in a circular addressed to all Permanent Secretaries, Accountant-General of the Federation, Auditor-General for the Federation and Heads of Extra Ministerial Department of the revised Public Service Rule from July 27, 2023.
Our observations as of October 05 2023, reveal that upon his assumption in office 13 years ago,
He illegally acquired and accumulated wealth using his cronies, who, among the permanent secretary, have vowed that Mr Jalo must remain relevant in as much as he remains the permanent secretary of FCT. As at the last count, it is observed that he is richer than the past ministers of FCT and even the current Minister. It is deeply worrisome that Mr Isah Jalo took advantage of his former office to loot the treasury and assets of the FCT as He illegally hijacked the procurement unit by acquiring countless landed properties through his fraudulent activities in the FCT.
We also call on His Excellency Nyesom Wike, the Honourable Minister of FCT, not to allow Mr Jalo into the said office as he will use his former connection at the FCDA to frustrate the noble reformation of the honourable Minister in FCT. We call on the FCT Minister to call on the permanent secretary to desist from taking bribes from political aspirants in FCT.

Trust Campaign Council knows the individual(s) and will be compelled to release the names, their antecedents and records if the fabricator(s) of such falsehood if they will not retrace their steps or guard their utterances.
Another falsehood that Member Representing Pankshin Kanke Kanam gave the Trust Campaign council the sum of N2 million can be described as fallacious.
Except if members of the opposing team whom some are media aides of the said lawmaker collected the said money only to turn around and accuse the Trust Campaign Council.
The Ayuku Pwaspo Campaign Council is focused on issue based campaign and will not be distracted by those who have nothing to woo voters except lies.

Civil Society Organizations, Analysts and Stakeholders have painstakingly investigated the activities of the Permanent Secretary of FCT Administration, Dr. Olusade Adesola since he assumed the bureacratic leadership of FCTA in June 2020, following his mischievous and clandestine move that saw the exit of a thoroughbred and astute Administrator, Sir Christian Ohaa, whom many Staff of FCTA described as the best Permanent Secretary so far and uncovered myriad corruption and abuse of office in an alarmingly disturbing proportion that has never been committed by any Permanent Secretary since the inception of FCT.
Many have expressed serious concerns why the Perm Sec has not been sacked and arrested with immediate effect by the ICPC and EFCC despite the massive corruption and humongous abuse of office by Dr Olusade Adesola.
Explaining the reason why the Permanent Secretary has not been sacked, inspite of being the longest serving Permanent Secretary ever, a source told our Correspondent that there are two reasons why Mr. Olusade Adesola has not been sacked. ‘The first reason is that he has the strong backing of the Head of Service of the Federation. ‘Secondly, he has used his power to allocate land in Guzape, Apo, Asokoro Extension and other highbrow places to the Head of Service, those related to the Head of Service and all the Permanent Secretaries.’
Our Correspondent gathered that upon assumption of office in June 2020, the Permanent Secretary met a work force of 30,000 and within 3 years have unilaterally employed about 10,000 persons into the system. Our source equally added that majority of the employees include: Jehovah Witneseses Members, where the Permanent Secretary worship and those from his village. Our source also gathered that the former retired Director of Human Resource, Professor Muhammad Bashir was said to have engaged the Permanent Secretary in a heated argument over the meagre slot always allocated to his office. But the Permanent Secretary told him blatantly that he has several people from his Congregation and Village to settle. Our source equally revealed that after the hot exchange of words between the Permanent Secretary and the Former Director, the Permanent Secretary since then, started working with one Alhaji Shafiu. Our source further gathered that out of the 10,000 people the Permanent Secretary secretly injected into the system, he only obtained waiver for 500 persons from Federal Character Commission. The New Minister must investigate this grievous allocation against Nigerians and report the Permanent Secretary to EFCC and ICPC to be handcuffed immediately.
Another major atrocity of the Permanent Secretary is land racketeering. Our source also uncovered massive unprecedented land rackeering by the Permanent Secretary that has never been done by any public officer since the nation’s capital came into existence. The source equally found out that towards the tail end of the immediate past Minister of FCT, Muhammad Musa Bello, several allocations were made. But long after the departure of the Former Minister, the Permanent Secretary bulldozed the Director of Land Administration to allocate over 300 allocations in choice places for the Head of Service of the Federation, friends of the Head of Service of the Federation, Permanent Secretaries’ Colleagues, Business Associates, Family Members, Traditional Rulers from his Village and his Village people. It was alleged that the Permanent Secretary was in the habit of telling people that the Former Minister was still backdating allocations. We therefore call on the New Minister of FCT, His Excellency Wike Nyesom to immediately set up an impartial committee to thoroughly investigate this weighty allegation and cancel such allocations.
Equally shocking and against the long established tradition of the FCT Administration is the usurpation of the power of the Director of Treasury by the Permanent Secretary. The seamless tradition over the years has been that one’s approvals are granted by approving authorities and necessary procurement procedures are followed, the Director of Treasury and Director of Central Processing Office(CPO) who are statutorily Commissioners of Finance will immediately send such payments to CBN for payment. But upon the assumption of the Permanent Secretary, he immediately altered this seamless 30 years tradition and insisted that all files, even those approved by the Ministers must get clearance from him before going to CBN. A senior management staff confided in our Correspondent that this bureaucratic procedure was instituted by the Perm Sec to ensure that only those files that concern him are paid as well as to ensure that he keeps tap on Contractors to ensure they settle him on time. Our source also leant that this it is his redtapism that have limited the pace of development of the city and made the city dirty. A situation the New Minister met upon assumption. The Minister should follow the courageous move of Former Minister of FCT, Bala Muhammad who never allow his approvals to go through the Permanent Secretary, but sent them straight to Director of Treasury for payment. The Minister should inquire from the Director of Treasury and Director Central Processing Office, if these allegations are true or not.
Another atrocity being perpetrated by the Permanent Secretary is the current brewing crisis in the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) over who takes over as the Director of Human Resource Management. Following the retirement of the former Director of Human Resource Department, Muhammad Bashir, there have been vacuum in that office. Our finding revealed that the Permanent Secretary has brought one Mr. Akin Ogunnaran who is a Deputy Director from the same village where the Permanent Secretary hail from to take over as the Head of Human Resource Department. Stakeholders have expressed serious concern over this clandestine move by the Permanent Secretary to install a far junior Director, ahead of 50 senior Directors of Administration. Our Correspondent further gathered that the Permanent Secretary had planned to place Mr. Akin on acting capacity pending while paving way for him to sit for promotion exam to Director and eventually confirm him as a substantive Director. Our Source also found out that since most of the senior Directors have barely one year to retire, the Perm Sec has been scheming to compulsorily retire them. An animus person told our reporter that the Perm Sec is used to that, sighting examples of other departments like Information were the he single handedly promoted a junior Deputy
Director to a Director above other Senior Deputy Directors even before going for promotion exams, simply because the said D.D is from his place, while in Education Secretariat Project Division, the PS removed the Director heading the division and brought in his town person to help him corner the contract of operation 100 schools in 100 days which the sum of 10b was allocated for it. We therefore call on the Minister to wade into this brewing crisis before the Permanent Secretary spoils his good works and derail the good plans he has for Residents of FCT.
The Permanent Secretary is also alleged to have embarked on massive capital projects just barely few days to the inauguration of Ministers. Our Correspondent gathered that this move was against Presidential directives that no Permanent Secretary should carry out any capital projects until the appointment of substantive Ministers. A case in point was the signing of 5bn agreement and flagged of Rehabilitation of Abuja Rail Mass Transit, few barely 3 days to the inauguration of Ministers. Another flagrant abuse of power is the signing of park and pay policy with contractors few days to the appointment of Ministers. Also deserving to be mentioned is the fire brigade approach by the Permanent Secretary that saw the signing into agreement of harmonized revenue formular with the 6 Area Council Chairmen of the FCT. Thereby, usurping the power of the Minister, even as a mere civil servant on level 18. The Minister is requested to call the 6 Area Councils Chairmen and verify this allegation.
Hijacking of FCT Christian Pilgrim slot to friends, family members and friends of his wife who work with National Hospital Abuja.
Converting 6 official vehicles for personal use.
Initiating national shopping where he asked Directors to route their procurement through him, which enabled him to corner 90 percent of the files to himself and friends without executing the contracts but the money will be paid to them, this has seriously affected the day-to-day running of offices activities. Director Procurement, Mr. Idris is said to have been having a serious issue with the Permanent Secretary over the Permanent Secretary’s untamed impunity and rascality in cornering about 95 percent of the procurement to himself.
Furthermore, that the PS since assumption in 2020, has been under minding administrative procedures to extent that the former Minister, Musa Bello will minute contract files to him but he will never act on the files until the contractors come to negotiate with him and if the Minister get to know about it, he will quickly act on it and backdated the action on the file to clear himself. However, it was gathered that one Mr. Ben who happened to be his PA is mostly used for his shoddy deals.
Our findings also revealed that the Permanent Secretary brought Ghanaians to supervise a multi-million-naira Education Secretariats Project which he cornered and awarded to himself.
Further findings revealed that about 98 percent of the staff of the Administration are angry with the Permanent Secretary over his stoppage of their overtime allowance and other welfare package due to them. One Staff is alleged to have said that a lot of staff in the Administration has his dossier, which will be sent to EFCC and ICPC when he leaves office. Our Correspondent also gathered that the Permanent Secretary always insist that Contractors pay him in dollars. The Permanent Secretary is also alleged to have collected several dollars from FCT Christian Welfare Board within the past 3 years. The Permanent Secretary is also alleged to have over 10 cars parked in his houses in Guzape, Anchor Estate-Lugbe, Lagos, Ibadan, USA, UK, Canada and 3 other countries.
We hereby write as Concerned and Patriotic Movement of Nigerians to bring to your attention the ongoing manipulation of the Permanent Secretary of FCTA Dr Olusade Adesola to impose one Dr Fika as the Director of Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS).
The Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS) was established to provide a comprehensive, all-inclusive, state of art and computerized geospatial data infrastructure to the FCT. Hence, the need for a professional who have been an employee and is trained accordingly by AGIS to run the day to day affairs of the AGIS.
Investigations have revealed that the Permanent Secretary who in the past have committed lots of atrocities in FCT has been delaying the smooth transition from the former director AGIS to the Deputy director as directed by the Head of Service of the federation in a circular dated July 27, 2023 on the revised PSR 020909 which stipulates that, “A Director or its equivalent by whatever nomenclature it is described in MDAs shall compulsorily retire upon serving eight years on Tenure policy on the post, and a Permanent Secretary shall hold office for a term of four years and renewable for a further term of four years, subject to satisfactory performance and no more”. It is pertinent to note that that Dr Fika is not a staff of AGIS and it is an aberration to impose him as the director AGIS as he is not qualified by the Act establishing AGIS.
Mr Olusade Adesola who is currently facing series of petitions over his destruction of civil service rules, corruptions, manipulations, nepotism and favouritism. The Permanent secretary whose tenure will soon come to an end by completing the four years tenure as permanent secretary and also feels that he will not be given another tenure by the FCT Minister and Head of Civil Service of the federation is trying to position people who are his allies in the major offices in the FCTA.
The group is calling on the FCT Minister to take proactive step against the decision of the Permanent Secretary and is also calling on all her members to prepare for a massive protest peaceful if Permanent Secretary is not called to order.

The Presidential Election Petitions Court has declared that it lacks the powers to hear the petition of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) challenging the qualification of President Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima.
Reading the lead judgment on Wednesday, Justice Haruna Tsammani held that the issues brought before the tribunal are pre-election matters, which ought to have been at a high court.
He added that the timeframe of 180 days within which to determine the issue had elapsed.
“In Alhassan and others versus Ishaku and others, it was held that an election tribunal has no jurisdiction on the primary of a political party,” he said.
He said the matters of qualification and disqualification are guided by the provisions of sections 131 and 137(1)(a)(j) of the Nigerian Constitution.
He held that issue complained of was an internal affair of a political party.
APM had contended that Tinubu and Shettima were not validly nominated to contest the February 25. They argue that by the combined reading of sections 131(c) and 142(2) of the Nigerian Constitution, 1999 and Section 133 of the Electoral Act made them to invalid.
They contend that when Kabiru Masari announced his withdrawal as an APC placeholder on June 24, 2022 to the date Shettima’s name was forwarded to INEC on July 14, 2022, was 21 days which breached Section 33 of the Electoral Act, 2022, which provides for 14 days for the replacement of a candidate for an election.

Nigerian have been drawn to a public concern by Concerned and Patriotic Movement of Nigerians of the attitude of the former Director of Abuja geographic information system isah Ibrahim who has blanetly refused to obey the directives of the Head of service of the federation thier office.
The said Isah Jalo has been serving as the director of AGIS for 13 years before the directive by the Head of Civil Service of the federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan in a circular addressed to all Permanent Secretaries, Accountant-General of the Federation, Auditor-General for the Federation and Heads of Extra Ministerial Department of the revised Public Service Rule from July 27, 2023. The revised PSR 020909 stipulates that, “A Director or its equivalent by whatever nomenclature it is described in MDAs shall compulsorily retire upon serving eight years on Tenure policy on the post, and a Permanent Secretary shall hold office for a term of four years and renewable for a further term of four years, subject to satisfactory performance and no more”.
The Permanent Secretary of FCT in compliance with this directive communicated the Director AGIS via a memo but Mr Jalo vowed not to handover instead transmitted the same memo to Bello Mubi Ishaq, the Head of Administration in FCT as they have been compromising the office for 13 years and also taken the government directives for granted.
Our observations as at 17thAugust 2023, reveals that since he assumed office in that capacity 13 years ago, he has illegally acquired and accumulated wealth using Titus Ullaram Head, IT by allocating properties to himself and he’s cronies which he has been using to keep himself in the said office. As at the last count, it is observed that he is richer than the past minister of the FCT and even the incoming minister. It is deeply worrisome that Mr. Isah Jalo has been taking advantage of his former office to loot the treasury and assets of the FCT as He has also illegally hijacked the procurement unit by acquiring countless number of landed properties through his fraudulent activities in the FCT. Mr Titus Ullaram Head, IT AGIS a level 14 officer is he’s ally in defrauding the government before the circular from the Head of Civil Service. Investigations into their bank accounts will reveal more of how they have fraudulently used public office to enrich themselves with tax payer’s money.
In the light of the above, we most passionately implore the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to instruct the SGF to take the necessary steps in ensuring that he vacates the office and calls on the relevant authorities to investigate him and bring him to justice. We also call on His Excellency, Nyesom Wike the Honourable Minister of FCT to take action and ensure that they are brought to book. More details of the nefarious activities of other directors of FCDA who have refused to handover will be published in the next publication.
The Berom Youths Moulder-Association-BYM is, again, saddened over the invasion of BECO Comprehensive School Kwi, where two staff, Mr and Mrs Rwang Danladi are reportedly shot dead and one Mr Dalyop Emmanuel Ibrahim, the Vice Principal of the School seriously injured by some known fulani armed men alongside suspected Bandits elements at about 3:00pm of Monday, 14th August, 2023.
According to eyewitness account, the incident happened when staff were holding a meeting to compile results of students for delivery on Friday, 18th August during “Speech and Prize Giving-Day” in line with the school’s calendar.
According to local source that pleads anonymity, the bandits came into the school Compound with their cattles, and interrupted the Staff meeting. The source added that the staff had asked the Fulani to get their cows out of the school environment. But instead of complying, they brought out their arms and opened gunfire at the teachers.
This resulted to the dead of recently wedded couples, Rwang Danladi and wife, Mrs Sandra Rwang Danladi, who are the staff of the school while Mr Dalyop Emmanuel Ibrahim who is the Vice Principal of the institution sustained serious injury and is receiving medical treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital-JUTH
The Berom Youth Moulder-Association, BYM under the leadership of Solomon Dalyop Mwantiri, Esq notes with concern how these Terrorists from Fass and Mahanga now move freely with arms and graze on farmlands, intimidating and killing locals at nearby Communities.
Fass and Mahanga as well as Guava have become enclaves of Terrorists, who carry out all sorts of coordinated attacks on villages and Communities in Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bokkos, Mangu, Jos South and even beyond the state.
We therefore call on government to ban open grazing in Plateau state since grazing has become a ploy to continue unleashing havock on human lives and property.
We also call on security operatives to, as a matter of urgency, raid the aforementioned settlement formed by way of forceful occupation after uprooting the aboriginals therefrom. This is necessary in order to get rid of both the terrorist and criminal elements that have firmly defied law and order.
In conclusion, the BYM calls on Government to declare Fulani Militias as Terrorists so as to be treated as such.
